Unlike his older brother, Zack was totally ecstatic for the servers and neighbors to sing to him! He was lovin' every bit of it! The Halsalls and Nikki and Kristen joined us for dinner as well! Then, we did our usual ritual of playing with race cars downstairs in the little outdoor theatre area of Ward Warehouse.

Happy 2nd Birthday, Zack!
Zack's Adventures with Nikki
When I first went back to work unexpectedly after having an unexpected c-section and getting offered an unexpected job opportunity, I didn't know who would watch Zack. I didn't think I was ready to go back when he was 3 months old, but I did, full time. A few months in though, I almost quit because in that time, we went through two different sitters. (Actually both were in home daycare situations with other children and they said they couldn't give him the attention he needed.) Then he had a wonderful sitter - my dad's cousin's wife Oanh, who was very nurturing and cared for him in an intimate family setting until he was 1. So, then he was on to his fourth sitter. We finally found Nikki through another friend (who's daughter she watched, until a few months later, it was just Zack). So, over the past year, Zack has gotten a lot of one-on-one (and sometimes two-on-one with Nikki's daughter Kristen) attention. They took him to playdates, toddler time, the zoo, and lots and lots of bus rides! Here are some pictures of Zack's past year. Now that he recently turned 2 on October 7th, he started preschool the very next day. He has only attended a few days (since he immediately got sick). He is still adjusting to a group setting and separation anxiety from mommy and daddy (and I'm sure Nikki and Kristen!). But, our active, climbing, bucket-wearing, tiger-loving, funny little guy (who started talking just weeks before his 2nd birthday) will be fine I'm sure in time.
